School shooting dilemma for parents: They want information about threats that authorities can’t give

The lack of information in tumultuous situations can be frustrating, especially in today’s climate, Dallas attorney Shonn Brown said. Schools are dealing not only with privacy laws but also with a student’s right to a public education, she said. A school has to be comfortable that there is no threat to the safety of the other students or to that particular student who even made the threat in order to allow them to come back to school,” said Brown, who does business litigation in addition to school law. “That’s kind of the balancing act the school has to go through.
