|Ward & Smith Helps Win Two of Texas' Top 2011 Verdicts|

LONGVIEW, Texas Ė The high-stakes business litigation and intellectual property law firm of Ward & Smith is being recognized for its role in helping win two of the largest verdicts in Texas during 2011.
Texas Lawyer newspaper is highlighting the East Texas firmís efforts on behalf of Fractus S.A. and Cheetah Omni LLC in the 2011 Texas Top Verdicts special edition, published May 28, 2012.
In May 2011, attorneys from Ward & Smith helped secure a $23 million verdict in Fractus, S.A. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al., No. 6:09-CV-00203. A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in Tyler found that Samsung had infringed nine Fractus patents involving multiband internal cell phone antennas.
The jury award in the Fractus case ranks as the stateís fifth largest intellectual property verdict and the 10th largest verdict overall during 2011. The award also was recognized by The National Law Journal as the nationís 81st largest verdict during the past year.
In March of last year, Ward & Smith helped win a $5.4 million patent infringement verdict in Cheetah Omni LLC v. Verizon Communications Inc. et al., No. 6:09-CV-00260, in the Eastern District of Texas. Jurors found that Verizonís fiber-to-the-home optical communications network, which includes the companyís FiOS television and Internet services, infringed several claims of Cheetahís U.S. Patent No. 7,522,836.
The Cheetah Omni verdict is recognized as Texasí 10th largest intellectual property verdict and the 36th largest overall in 2011.
