The news last week that thousands of North Texas organizations lost their tax-exempt status turns out to be not that big of a deal after all, according to a local attorney who specializes in tax law and nonprofits.

The Internal Revenue Service last week posted a list of revocations for 275,000 organizations nationwide.

"Most of them are defunct organizations that probably went out of business years ago and never told the IRS," says Tyree Collier, partner at Thompson & Knight. "Others are mistakes by the IRS."
